CFO San Antonio

CFO San Antonio and when you need a licensed firm

When does a San Antonio owner need a licensed firm?

Looking for the point where a Tax CFO ends and a licensed firm begins? Steven Palmieri is not a CPA. Nobody here audits, reviews or compiles, and no report on anyone's statements leaves the practice. If a surety, a prime contractor, a bond or a bank requires one of those reports, a licensed firm signs it. We will have the books waiting for them when they arrive.

Our side of the line

Our side is wide. The books are closed every month. Statements come out of those books without a report stapled to them. Receivables are watched and the cash plan is built around the wait. A provider you run handles payroll once we have arranged it, and the return comes out of those same pages. Decisions that belong to the year are made while the year is still open.

The licensed firm's side

Audits, reviews and compilations are written opinions or reports about a set of statements. Their purpose is to let somebody outside the company trust the numbers, such as a surety sizing a bond, a bank holding a covenant or a prime whose own contract passes the requirement down to its subs. Plenty of small companies are never asked for one. When yours is, the licensed firm works on its own, and our monthly work makes theirs easier.

Statements we prepare go out with a one-line note that no audit, review or compilation report came with them, so the reader knows what the paper is.

Government accounting systems

Some contracts call for a review of the contractor's accounting system by an outside specialist. That is a separate trade and we do not practice it. We can point you to the kind of firm that does. What we do beforehand is put books, invoices and receivables into the order a reviewer will want, which saves time on both sides.

Payroll, and a letter from the IRS

On payroll we arrange and never operate. A provider sends the paychecks, and you run the provider. Our job is the lineup beforehand, with registrations in place, your own pay set properly, the feed tied to your books and each quarterly and annual filing watched.

A letter from the IRS gets a calm reading from us, and we help you gather what the answer needs. Only an enrolled agent, a CPA or an attorney can stand in for you at the IRS. If your letter heads that way, we will tell you early, and the monthly work carries on.

If you are not sure which side you are on

Bring the request to us. A bank, a surety or a prime may only be asking for a profit and loss, a balance sheet or an aging list, all of which we prepare. If it truly requires a signature on a report, you will find out before you spend any time on it. The page on selling to government and big institutions shows where these requests tend to appear, and the monthly work is described under a fractional CFO in San Antonio.
